Life Coaching and Grief Counseling Programs

Students are accepted into the SWM scholarship program at the end of their junior year of high school. They are then required to complete our year-long life coaching program during their senior year of high school before receiving their scholarship at the end of their senior year.

The emotional support and personal attention students receive through the program helps ensure they will get through a critical period in their lives and transition to a college environment, and into young adulthood, with the guidance and direction needed to cope with the challenges in their life and succeed.

Students Without Mothers provides life altering direction by offering a results-oriented program that changes the trajectory for students who have lost their mothers. The Life Coaching Program, which is designed to provide both advocacy and support, helps students consistently make the best choices as they plan for their future. Participation in our career and life readiness program helps students grow their strengths and mitigate their life challenges, which in turns helps them become conscious of the role different choices can make in their lives. They learn the skills they need to direct their path. This program provides students with the advantage needed to succeed in college and the workplace as successful leaders. Topics include:

  • Financial Literacy
  • Self-Discovery
  • Choosing a College/Choosing a Major
  • Critical Thinking
  • Social Etiquette
  • Dressing for Success
  • Effective Communication
  • Scholarships and Financial Aid
  • Relationship Development
  • Conflict Resolution Skills
  • Healthy Choices

The results driven life coaching sessions also includes mental health and grief counseling. These sessions are led by a licensed therapist who works very closely with the program participants to offer group and individual mental health counseling services. These mental health services, as it relates to grief, allows the therapist to take a deeper look at the ways in which the participants have been impacted by their personal losses. The impact is not limited to one portion of their lives and through these mental health services, they have been able to assess from a broader lens. The group sessions provide the participants with a sense of belonging and normalization that is crucial to the grief process. The Therapist’s background includes the loss of her mother at a very young age, providing her with a greater understanding and appreciation for the need of this type of resource from a personal perspective.
